Municipal Council Elections on 18 March 2026
On Wednesday 18 March 2026, residents of Wassenaar will elect the members of the Municipal Council. With your vote, you help decide on important local issues such as housing, traffic, green spaces and public safety. International residents are also invited to take part in these elections, provided they meet the conditions for voting.
The Municipal Council plays a central role in governing Wassenaar. As elected representatives of the residents, council members determine municipal policy, adopt local regulations and decide how the municipal budget is spent. They also supervise the work of the Mayor and Aldermen and represent the interests and concerns of the community. By voting, you influence who will represent you and the direction our municipality will take in the coming years.
Who can vote?
You are allowed to vote in the Municipal Council Elections if you:
- Are 18 years of age or older;
- Live in the municipality of Wassenaar;
- Are registered in the Personal Records Database (BRP);
- Have Dutch nationality, or the nationality of another European Union country; or
- Have a nationality from outside the European Union and have legally resided in the Netherlands for at least five years on 2 February 2026.
How does voting work?
Voting is simple and takes place in a polling station in Wassenaar on Wednesday 18 March 2026 between 07:30 and 21:00.
Before the election, you will receive your voting pass by post at your home address. Please keep this pass safe, as you need it to vote.
On election day, bring:
- Your voting pass; and
- A valid passport, identity card or driving licence (these may be expired, as long as they expired no more than five years ago).
Where can you vote?
There are several polling stations across Wassenaar. You may choose any polling station within the municipality to cast your vote. An overview of all polling stations can be found in the attached brochure below and on the website.
